The statement is true to the core.At the same time it is vice versa. The image and status of the profession;the work environment, pay and perks; makes a student to chose the profession. At present we are getting only average and below average graduates which was dominated at one time by Postgraduates having enthusiam to learn and practice. Eventually this poses threat to LIS education.

LIS education and librarainship go longside both helping ech other. Librarianship, a service should be of the highest quality and at the same time always needs to be improving and innovating. LIS education should prepare professiuonals capable of providing such services. Quality of LIS education is determined by the needs of practical libraraianship. Involvement of practicing librarainship in LIS education is very important.

Quite true provided more stress is given to the practical aspects of the profession. One more thing, since LIS profession is more a service profession serving people most of the time, it is important that students art trained in communication skills - both written as well as oral.

Definitely the library education should be given the greatest attention that it deserves. Better infrastructural facilities in terms of more full time qualified teachers, a well equipped computer lab, grants to purchase library management software, Internet facilities, and generous grants for print as well as electronic books and journals, independent building etc. is absolutely important. Teaching work load should be such that teachers are in a position to carry out effective research activities as well. Also what we need is to improve the infrastructure of the existing schools rather than starting new schools. Librarians should take pride in their profession and focus on improving the quality of the library and information services. At the same time a sense of commitment and building a better work culture is extremely important in general.
